Distinguished Club Status Achieved
Club 1161 earned Distinguished Status for the 2026 - 2027 year on 31 August, a new club history record! Our membership has also climbed to a very respectable 34 creators.

We are a diverse, innovative, long-running Toastmasters club where members practice public speaking and leadership skills in a low-pressure, supportive environment. Every meeting mixes prepared speeches, impromptu practice, and supportive feedback. Guests are welcome to join us and participate every single week.

Innovation
We break the mold and try new stuff
Our club is committed to pushing past outdated, garden-variety formats. We experiment with innovative meeting formats and topics and extracurricular activities that challenge us and create camaraderie.
Stage Nights
A dedicated evening for members to perform prepared material in front of a live crowd outside the structure of a normal meeting — the first of several new stage formats in the works.
Social Events
Regular get-togethers outside the meeting room, built to turn fellow members into real friends and keep the club feeling like a community, not just an hour on Monday nights.
Extracurricular Opportunities
From speaking at Ignite Seattle to other community stages we're actively pursuing, our innovation initiatives help members take their voice beyond the club — with more opportunities on the way.

About the Club
The old playbook died with the dinosaurs…so we wrote our own!
While Northeast Seattle Toastmasters (Club 1161) chartered in 1952, the club today is diverse, innovative, and dynamic. It has grown into one of the largest and fastest-growing clubs on the West Coast. What hasn't changed is the community: since 1952 we have helped hundreds of members — students, engineers, executives, career-changers, retirees, entrepreneurs, authors, and other creators — get more comfortable and more capable in front of a room, and build real relationships along the way.
Our Mission
We provide a supportive, positive environment built around your individual goals and projects — not a one-size-fits-all curriculum — so every member can develop communication and leadership skills that fit their own path to self-confidence and growth.
Community & Relationships
Members come from every background and career stage — preparing for a big presentation, working toward a leadership title, or just wanting to think faster on their feet. The friendships and support built along the way are a big part of why people stay.

Every member moves at their own pace — this is the typical rapid track, not a requirement.
Before you arrive
Check the details, then just show up
Mondays, 7:30–9:00 PM, at The Fairview Church (Rm 311), 844 NE 78th St, Seattle, WA 98115 — in person or by Google Meet. Park in the free parking lot, and use the South Entrance by ringing the buzzer.
Your first meeting
Sit in and see the format
A member greets you at the door and welcomes you to our community. You're welcome to answer an impromptu speaking prompt, or just observe for the meeting.
When you're ready
Become an official member
Download and complete the New Member Application, then email it to our officers. Our team will process your application, then our Treasurer will reach out to you for dues payment.
Weeks 1–2
Get a mentor and pick a Pathway
New members are paired with a mentor and choose a Pathways learning track based on their goals.
Weeks 3–6
Give your Ice Breaker speech
Your first prepared speech introduces you to the club — short, and supportive.
Months 2–6
Build momentum
Take on a meeting role, give 2–3 more speeches, and get comfortable with structured feedback.
6+ months
Step into leadership
Run for a club officer role, mentor the next new guest, or compete at an Area speech contest.
